Mr. Patel was interviewed in Belgrave Libray . The memories have been added to the website with his permission and he understands the terms and conditions of the website.

He is 93 years old, and was between 25 and 30 when war broke out. He lived in Kenya then. He remembers many soldiers who were wounded and in a bad condition, mostly Italians.
The news would be full of information that too many people had been killed.
There were boards on the shop and house windows for blackouts.
He was a personal friend of Gandhi.
