BILL AND MARGARET BISSETT
I was born in Glasgow in 1926. I was called on 5th of December 1944 to join the army. I went to Northern Ireland for initial training, It was six weeks training.
From there I was sent to Yorkshire for more training.
That was for holding camps.
There were lots of different regiment. I was put in to Leicester Regiment.
After the training I was sent to Lunepurg, in Germany
After sometimes, I was in Berlin for six months
There I worked as a transport driver.
I also used to do night security patrol as well.
Very often we were directed to a particular place where Russian troops used to go each and every house for anything they wanted. At that time seven members of my family were in the forces. I was only eighteen years old.
My father also join the forces when he was fifty one.
I stayed in Germany for three years. When the war was over I came back and passed through Leicester, to be the best man at my sister鈥檚 wedding. There I met Margaret,(my wife) my brother in law鈥檚 sister. If there was no war, I wouldn鈥檛 have met my wife. That was the good thing happen to me. We have been living together for last fifty five years.
