As a result of an aircraft off-loading for the return flight home, bombs were dropped on Wragby. One exploded in a farmers field causing a huge crater and the ARP and others were standing looking down into the hole. My brother Ronnie who was then 16 years old, climbed over the wall into the field to have a look and as he was walking towards the crater a second bomb that no-one knew was there exploded killing some of the bystanders including two brothers. It was a terrible sight to see.
Ellis Helliwell aged 12 was hit in the leg by shrapnel and sadly later died.
