Any of this embryo " Dad's Army " left ??
Much more to be told if there any of the original " gang " stll around. Eric Devey, Peter Powell,John Sparrow.
Stories of whistling bombs, living by all those factories, land mines, Heinkels and Dorniers, Ack Ack guns. Organ grinders, Anderson Shelters, the wailing sirens, spam, long summers, lots of love from my wonderful Mum. Tremendous memories of the wonderful spirit anf feeling of togetherness then in spite of our relative poverty. Great memories of Churchill and Monty and even being bombed out of three houses in Reddings Lane we surbvived. Being 76 now I only wish I had the capability to write a book ( I have lots of diaries ) of those brave and heartwarming days. Especially of being an ARP messenger on a bike -- when I was just 13 -- spending most days asleep ( avoiding school) and most nights watching the awful bombing, including being on Small Heath Sstation bridge when the BSA was blown apart.
