Doris Ball's recollection:
My father had a 'Morrison Air Raid Shelter' which also served as a dining table. This was made of cast iron and painted light brown. Each night when the siren sounded, my father, stepmother sister and my baby son, Marc who was 18 months of age all took
shelter under this table. Marc had to have his bottle of 'Oster Milk'. Although he did not sleep much at night, he slept nearly all the day. There were 3 four week old puppies and their mother, who also shared the mattress that we tried to get some rest on; it was truly well occupied. Although I was very frightened we did manage to laugh a lot. My sister and myself are now well over eighty years young and still thank our lucky stars that we were able to survive the war. Doris Anthony, now Doris Ball
(age 84).
