These memories were given by Fred to one of the Rushey Mead School students. They have been added to the website with his permission and he understands the website鈥檚 terms and conditions.
I interviewed Fred who is a resident at Rushey Mead Manor on the 21st March 2004. Through this interview I found Fred鈥檚 memories included such thoughts as these;
He had lived through 2 wars.
He had fought in one war and been wounded.
Growing up with his family, there were 10 children in the family, 1 girl and 9 boys. Life was hard.
He was a Pioneer in the war; his job was to remove dead bodies from the trenches.
He travelled to Belgium and Russia in an army wagon.
He couldn鈥檛 read or write, but was expected to learn different languages.
When the war was over they had a parade devoted to all of the soldiers and anyone who contributed in the war.
