1941 Wedding restrictions
People met together to give rations of food to make cakes. Madam Rosoval from America fetched wedding gowns. Elizabeth - Friends and neighbours came to Westfield Lane School to meet and discuss rations. People celebrated after war. Built a lot of prefabs after the war. They had fitted kitchens, heated towel rails - the kind of things that people were not use to. Some kids had street parties. Dolly blue cream to keep your curtains clean. People would always brush suits for next day and clean their shoes.
Joyce -Remember washing machine with single rolls make came out and Delmonte owned the firm - he went to America. Wrote to him telling him that the washer had broken down, he sent some tinned fruit and a new washer, wouldn't take the old washer and all of a sudden he wouldn't carry on selling
machines, so he took his fruit business and it is still going today - so Joyce settled for a twin tub after that.

Joyce caught scarlet fever and sister caught if off her as a young child of 12 years. Because they lived in a big house they nursed her at home - put a big sheet around her bed to recover. It took six weeks to recover. Mum had to stay with her all days and all night in bedroom.

Mothers wouldn't let children bake - cook during war as they couldn't afford to waste anything.
