There was my mummy and my daddy and myself. We had an air-raid shelter built for the 3 of us in the back yard. But that Tuesday night blitz was so bad, there must have been 8-10 people in the shelter built for 3, and we didn鈥檛 have room to move. Well, in our toilet, the shelter door faced the toilet. The toilet had a big window, and all you could see was the flames and the planes. On the 鈥
Some bright spark said 鈥渃over that window up, we can see everything鈥. So she went to cover it up. And what did she get? A Union Jack! That made it worse! We were all howling at her then, 鈥淕et that down! You鈥檙e showing the Germans where we are!鈥
But next morning, when it was all over, we didn鈥檛 realise how close the thing had been because we had a barrage balloon on our chimney. So it must have been shot down or something. Then they got it down and made blouses and everything out of it.
