COMPLAINTS PROCED URE.
Mrs. Archer's brother was sent to work in Alderney as a punishment for a minor misdemeanour. While there, he was attacked by one of the concentration camp guards and later died from his injuries. When one of the family complained to the Feldcommandantur in Guernsey, they said they could not investigate unless the family provided the identification of the guard. The family was reluctant to do this for fear of retaliation and so did not respond. This caused the Feldcommandant to send an official to their house to try to persuade them to change their minds. While in the house he noticed they had a Union Jack draped across their piano. To try to persuade them into cooperation the man said he could 'have them' for displaying this proscribed British symbol.
