I don鈥檛 remember feeling deprived of food in any way. Breakfast, dinner and tea were put on the table, and you ate it. We did not eat between meals. I felt hungry from time to time but small boys do. It was my job to go and get the bread ration from the depot, which had to be cut up to last until the next ration, but I don鈥檛 remember feeling short of food, not at first.
