When this blasted war is o鈥檈r
There鈥檚 lots of things we just won鈥檛 do
Things we鈥檒l want to do no more
I鈥檒l tell you just a few.
No rising at Reveille, no going on P.T.
No blasted Sergeant-Major bawling 鈥淪hun鈥
No more 鈥楪ilchrist鈥 stew, and no more half-boiled tea
No more tinned herring, no more NAAFI bun.
No more map reading, no more daily task
No lame-brained corporals trying to impress
No wondering what鈥檚 the latest news from 鈥楥rasc鈥
And no more scrubbing tables in the mess.
No more inspections, no more D.R.O.鈥檌ng
No more drilling, no more cleaning brass
No more bed-making, no more button sewing,
And no more need to fanny for a pass.
No more compelled to shave the face each morning
No more need to 鈥楤lanco-up鈥 for guard
No more need to heed the O.C.鈥檚 warning
To keep our filthy fag-ends off the yard.
No more details, no more duff
No more lining up for pay
No salutes, we鈥檝e had enough
No more 鈥榙ubbing鈥 boots each day.
No more waiting for a leave
No more parting from the wife
No more need to fret and grieve
No thinking 鈥淲hat a bleeding life鈥.
No whitewashing, no spud-bashing
No more haircuts army style
No more trouble through gear-crashing
No more marching many a mile.
No more 鈥楯ankers鈥, not to mention
Lots of things we鈥檒l do no more
No. C.B. and no detention
