My lasting Memory of World War II is…I was born after the second world war — however, the following memories derived from Grandparents and parents are worth mentioning. My Grandfather leaping over the back yard gate on seeing a German plane shot down over Sunderland. My father returning to London where he was an aircraft mechanic and finding the street where he lived completely demolished. My parents who worked on the aircraft base at South Milford Yorkshire, counting in the pilots returning from missions — there were always some missing. My mother getting into trouble because she held back the order for aeroplane parts because she loved having a big session tearing off perforated edges.
