My father joined the army in 1939, and on 12/02/1940 was posted to the 1st.Ammunition Divisional Workshop. after training in the south of England around the New Forest area I believe, he went to France in May 1940. He was a D.R. and I have letters that he wrote to my mother from France in May and June 1940. He wrote on the 4th/5th/6th/7th. then on the 11th/12th.june, still in France and I would very much like to know wherabout in France he could have been at this time. He arrived back at Plymouth on the 19th. of June. and in a letter he wrote on the 20th. he said he was lucky to be back because the boat in front of his wherever he boarded, was bombed and machine gunned, I have often wondered if that could have been the Lancastria at st. Nazaire, but I dont know. If anyone has any answers I wou Thankyou.ld be very gratefull.
