I remember at the age of 5 years the V.E. day party at my Grandfathers shop. We were German targets in Beverley when Hull was bombed. I remember a cannon shell that came along our back passage, made a hole in the gate and the back door and landed underneath the copper in the scullery. It didn鈥檛 explode. I remember my Grandmother鈥檚 cellar where we went when the bombing was on. The bed smelled fusty. There was waterglass in a bucket where eggs were kept. I remember the bucket vibrating when Hull was bombed and the waterglass crept up in the bucket and spilled over the side.
