I lived near Dover, and was evacuated to Wales in 1939, when I was 13. I liked it there, but returned two years later when I turned 15, after I left school. One thing that I remember most is near where I lived was a military base, which was attacked with buzz bombs (V2 Rockets) and regular bombs with some regularity. The Soldiers came past to get on the train, and the Red Cross also came through with their wounded. Coming up to D-Day, tanks and armoured vehicles were common, and they were very noisy.
