My husband Bill Edwards on the left as guest of honour cutting the cake, our son Paul is just to his right
VE day came and spontaneously a street party was quickly arranged. Everyone contributing something towards the 'feast'. For instance in order to make the butter ration go further it was beaten with evaporated milk to make it spread further. I made a sponge sandwich using liquid paraffin from my medicine cupboard, eggs from my own chickens in my back garden and I sacrificed some of my home made jam. The sun shone, it was a glorious day and my husband Bill managed to get home as guest of honour to cut the cake.
