St Bartholomew鈥檚 Hospital Archives & Museum is based in the North Wing, St Bartholomew鈥檚 Hospital, West Smithfield, London, EC1A 7BE.
Our aim is to collect, preserve, interpret and make available to staff, patients and the public the archives, works of art and other historical materials in our care.
Our collection includes of one of the finest hospital archives in Britain; an art collection incorporating works by Hogarth, Reynolds, Lawrence and Millais; the Hospital鈥檚 'Treasures'; and other significant historical materials.
We collect records and items of and relating to St Bartholomew鈥檚 Hospital and other related hospitals and administrative bodies, including the Medical College of St Bartholomew鈥檚 Hospital, St Bartholomew鈥檚 College of Nursing & Midwifery, and St Mark鈥檚 Hospital; records and items of and relating to Barts and The London NHS Trust; personal papers and items from staff, students and patients of St Bartholomew鈥檚 Hospital.
Specifically relating to World War Two, we hold photographs and records from the hospital at the time, as well as descriptions of the hospital and its work during the war.
The Museum is open, free of charge, from 10am-4pm, Tuesday to Friday.
The Archives is open by appointment only.
Please note that parish records and published material, such as annual reports, are available for consultation. Access to other records is in accordance with relevant legislation, such as the Public Records Act 1958, the Access to Health Records Act 1990 Section 3(f), the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Freedom of Information Act 2001.
