Hello,
my name is Lothar Bildat, I am 35 ys. old and I live in Germany. I was born in the middle of Germany in December 1967, over 20 years after the end of the Second World War.
Background for my activities on this site:
I have lot of information about the war and it's impact on the area where I was born. This information includes military history (especially bomb raids) and of course many stories from my - still living - relatives. Of course there is always a perceptional bias, my mother was seven when the war was over, so she 'sees' the war through the eyes of a child. But I know that within her life certain events will never be forgotten. If anyone is interested, I will tell some stories in details.
Maybe the question arises, why a (relatively) young German posts messages and personal stories on a 大象传媒 Newsgroup-Service.
First, I am very interested in the time of WWII for several reasons (this time shaped the face of Europe and influenced every single family).
Second, in Germany a 'discussion' between the generations hardly ever took place. The 50ies were the time of reconstruction and a strong desire to forget, the 60ies and 70ies were the time of accusations and clashes of the generations, the 80ies were the years of prosperity, fun and well-being and the 90ies were the years of our reunification. And now most of the veterans are dead or unable to tell there stories.
Third, the discussion about the allied bomb raids on city centers (especially British night attacks) has emerged recently, so this time still seems to be of interest here as well. German Historians begin to have a closer look on what happened during these years.
So maybe I can get into touch with people from England (Wales and Scotland as well) with whom I can share some ideas and change some thoughts.
If we want to live in a united Europe, we will have to talk to each other anyway.
My profession:
I am psychologist and lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Lueneburg, Northern Germany.
My hobbys:
History (incl. WWI, WWII, Middle Ages and prehistoric aspects), Travelling, Sports, Science Fiction; Fantasy and Contemporary Litarature (if only had the time to read more...).
I am looking forward to any kind of comments.
