Mrs Vera Coxon was working at Boots in Nottingham when war was declared. She joined the Boots 60th Voluntary Aid Detachment and the ARP- the oldest child had to go into the ARP if no father in the house. Learnt to put out incendary bombs in Market Square.
She was called up and went into munitions at Colwick.
The women used to sand their legs with the sand that had been left to make smokescreens. Turned their legs a tan colour but a problem when it rained- sometimes it looked as if you had wet yourself!!!
