All of the following stories were collected during the Tenbury Wells Agricultural Show on 7 August 2004. Tenbury Wells is at the corner of three rural counties, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire, and farming families come from miles around to show their stock and enjoy the show.
Many of the stories touched on the subtle changes that wartime regulations made on the way farmers worked the land they had lived on for generations. There was also a great deal of talk about racy antics with land girls, black-market pig smuggling, and the way in which German and Italian PoWs played their part in Digging for Victory.
The People's War show stand was run by Jenni Waugh, 大象传媒 Outreach Officer, Judy Middleton, of Age Concern Leominster, Linda Averill, of Community Action Wyre Forest Volunteer Bureau, and Phoenix Lyons.
All of the following stories were written down during the show and added to the site later by volunteer typists from MLA West Midlands. They have been added to the site with the contributors' permission. The authors fully understand the site's terms and conditions.
