Hi,
My name is Chris Jones and I'm researching my Grandfathers war time experience. My Grandfather died several years ago and had never spoken about the war to me. I knew he had been a POW and I knew he had been captured in North Africa.
My grandmother recently found his diary from the time and I am currently getting it translated as he wrote it in Welsh.
I now know that he was a Gunner in E Battery, 11th (HAC) Regt RA, and was captured in Lybia in 1942. I then believe he was a POW in Italy then in Germany.
I'd love to hear from anyone who knew him during the war his details are:
Edwin Graham Short,
Known as Graham,
Joined in 1941,
Captured in mid 1942 in Lybia supposedly after driving a wounded collegue to an aid station and then not realising the battle lines had changed by 10 miles and so driving straight into the Enemy.
I do have a regt number for him but will need to dig it out.
I will also be talking to my other reletives about their war time service, I know of the following but no details.
Grandmother - Teaching in London
Grandfather - Merchant Navy
Uncle - Royal Air Force
I must have a chat to others and find out more.
Thanks
Chris
