TRAUMA IN VETERANS
WW2 Team's own words, Which was brought to my attention, by a concerned veteran:
Combat Stress: The Ex-Services Mental Welfare Society
Founded in 1919, Combat Stress is the only organisation helping ex-Servicemen and women with mental health problems due to their Service career. With a network of 12 welfare officers covering the whole of the UK, they will visit at home or in hospital, and can assist with War Pensions and Appeals. There are three treatment centres - in Surrey, Shropshire and Scotland. A free information pack can be supplied on request.
shirleyvincents reply: I find this information rediculous abomidable what are these people, who run this site, think they are talking about. COMBAT stress is not the 'only' organisation helping ex-servicemen and women with mental health problems.
And apart from this fact, i am a trained counsellor and i am telling you on the WW2 team just because someone has trauma because of war, doesnt actually mean they are mentally ill.
Firstly, Combat stress charge people who are sent to see them (fact), because i personaly know several veterans who have tried to contact them. One particular veteran was told she could see somebody at a reduced rate but she would have to first travel to London.
As is obvious in the news lately Combat stress, is failing not only WW2 veterans, but veterans in general, because a friend of mine who is a Gulf war veteran, with immense problems was asked to pay 35 pounds an hour to see a therapist. When she said 'i cannot afford this' she was told to contact her doctor, who gave her a prescription, but no hope of therapy.
When all this would have took by a proper counsellor is a few months work at a reasonable rate, with a proper counsellor, for her to talk about some of her painful memories,
Please do not say that WW2 veterans are mentally ill as i find this extremely offensive. And also if some of the team would do their homework, they would find that Combat stress, is one of the hardest places to contact. As when men and women get through they are asked numerous questions, and are led no where unless they have 25-45 pounds an hour to spare.
I personaly know that by you putting their name and address on this site, (Combat stress), is actually giving people false hope plus, thoughts are going into their minds that they are mentally ill. Finally this is exactly what i was worried about, on this site.
I told this site months ago, when veterans talk about their memories of the war on this site: with all the good memories all the sadness and heartache would come twicefold with it.
I asked you at that time what were you going to do if this happens on this site, you are obviously worried about it because you have put the name Combat stress on this site.
Why didnt you contact people who work like myself with veterans, who are qualified to help them with the amounts of stress they are going through, through telling their storys on this site, and are then being left to their own devises, i would have been pleased to help.
But as usual you seem to think that everybody can get hundreds of miles away weeks on end and pay out of reach prices for their therapy. I find that out of reach for people who are living on a pension, and just scraping by as it is in life. Looking forward to your feedback shirleyvincent
