Born 1931, in a long gone nursing home Nightingale Lane near Clapham Common South Side.
Lived first 55 years of my life in the same Victorian semi-detatched house, originally leased by Grandfather in around 1882, when it was built. Secondary education: 1943-49 scholarship pupil at Strand School( LCC grammar School)
National Service as Air Wireless Mechanic in the RAF, rising to rank of Senior Aircraftsman stationed at No2 Air Navigation School, Thorney Island, Hants.
Represented Flying Training Command at the RAF Model Aircraft Championships 1951.
Laboratory Technician at Battersea Polytechnic 1952-1954.Junior Petroleum Chemist with the Cleverland and Esso Petroleum Companies 1954-1966. Graduated BSc(hons)Chemistry 1965 after 11 years part-time study at Battersea and Northern Polytechnics.
Taught various Science subjects and Maths at low level in further education colleges 1966-1986.
On obtaining early reirement at 55, came with wife and 4 teenage children to live at Totland on the Isle of Wight.
During time on the Island, saw 3 elder children married and now have 4 young grandchildren living in various parts of the south of England.
Studied music Theory and composition with the Open College of the Arts. Had my "Vectis" Symphony played through by the Wirral Symphony Orchestra in July 2002.
Still building and flying Free-Flight rubber- powered model aircraft but still have much to learn after over 60 years.
Other relaxations include walking and cycling.
Memberships include the Cyclists'Touring Club, Ramblers' Association, Julia Margaret Cameron Trust,Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers,
Totland Parish Council.Also a member of the congregation of St Saviour's RC Church,Totland and a governor of St Saviour's RC Primary School.
