Me---- 933419 W/O Pilot KKen Baldwin
Born in Bedfordshire 1921 . Joined RAF 1940 for pilot training .Flew Blenheims and on 21st birthday shipped out to N.Africa--thank you . Converted to Wellingtons and joined 40 Sqdn supporting 8th Army from Alamein to Tunis .Then night bombing raids on Sicily (Palermo) and various Italian bases . Completed tour of 40 ops and returned Uk , Posted for flying instructor duties on Albemarles and Stirlings teaching handling and glider towing. Two weeks interval to drop silver paper over France prior D day Later joined 299 Sqdn for supply drops to Underground movements, our own troops and glider drops .Did further 16 ops then VE day . For few weeks repatriated Czechs to Prague And brought back our own POW's to UK .
War in Far East still on and flew Stirling to Bombay via Cairo Telaviv Bahrein Karachi .Luckily Japan soon surrendered--not by my efforts-- and returned Uk for demob.
Have since taught English in UK .Nigeria.Uganda and Gulf . Retired 1982 and now write and perform own poetry ad no doubt will be inflicting some nostalgic pieces on this site .
