as a girl of 11years i was evacuated to exmouth in south devon with classes from my school in gravesend. It was a long journey we were all tired when we arrived. We were taken to I think a chuch hall,or village hall where we were to meet our `family` I had made friends with another girl during the journey and we wanted to stay to gether.W were billeted with a young couple we were not very happy there,so were went to another house owned by a spinster lady, she had a lovely spaniel dog who she called Ray, we were quite happy there but she hasd strict rules. I have happy memories of `carradale` the name of the house we stayed at. To this day I still have the bible miss Smythe gave to me when I left.
