My interest in WW2 is because my father was blinded in the war shortly before I was born. He was a member of St Dunstans which is a wonderful organisation who trained him to work and lead a totally independent life and support his family. He was well known around Dunstable as he had a guide dog and was one of the first blind people to be trained to use a guide dog.
I have thoroughly enjoyed being a WW2 story gatherer for Three Counties Radio and it has been fascinating hearing the memories people have some of which were extremely sad but others were happy. The hardships people endured in the forces and also at home have been quite an eye opener.
I feel the elderly population deserve our greatest respect and we should continue to remember their sacrifice on Armistice Day.
