My name is William George Allen - 'Bill' to my friends. I was born in February 1922 in the Old Kent Road area of South East London, where my parents and two sisters were living.
In 1932 my family moved to Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, where I resumed my schooling until 1937, when I left to join the clerical staff of Geo. Monro Ltd., the well known Covent Garden wholesalers. It was at this time that I met and fell in love with my wife, Betty, (nee Robinson).
We married in 1940 shortly after the outbreak of war in September 1939, when life was very uncertain.
We have one wonderful daughter, Christine, who has provided us with two grandsons - Larry and Jonathan. ( More of these two later...) We have an equally wonderful son-in-law, David Searle, through whose good offices I have been able to join the Membership of this archive.
I hope that some of my adventures during the war, when I was in the Marine Craft section of the R.A.F. may be of interest to others....
