My interest in WWII is because of the following:

I was born on 26 September 1939, I had one uncle and five cousins who served in WWII.

3 in the Army (2 of whom died)
2 in the Royal Navy
1 in the RAF

I only have a vague memory of my uncle Les who was killed in Germany on 2nd May 1945. He was a much loved brother of three doting sisters.

He was married and had two sons. Two years after he was killed his wife, Winnie, died. His sons were left orphans. When the eldest of these was 15 and the youngest 13, the youngest died of Leukaemia.

My cousin John was killed at Anzio.
