Portsmouth Trophy (U18 CI Club Championship) Sporting Academics 3 – 2 Guernsey Northerners After a scrappy first half hour, the game really blossomed, and after Accies' first goal five minutes before the break, it was hard to take your eyes off the action.
| A nervy time in the Accies' box |
Ben Gallichan opened the Accies’ scoresheet as the North defence was pulled over to the side from where the cross had been despatched. The Jersey champions concentration was called into question though, with North equalising within seconds of the restart, courtesy of Matt Loaring following up a shot from his brother. And a minute later, John Loaring put the visitors in front as he beat the keeper David Clarke to a long through ball. So three goals in the space of as many minutes but it could have been worse for Academics as North’s Glen Dyer missed a great chance.Four minutes after the interval Paul Dingle beat the offside trap to equalise, but from then on the main opportunities fell to the visitors. When Accies fullback Tommy Wigley was sent off 25 minutes from time, for a bad tackle, attracting a second yellow card, it looked like there would be only one winner. But the Jersey boys regrouped and just five minutes later they were back in front as Paul Dingle's cross from the left produced an excellent goal for Ryan Ennis, who controlled, spun and shot on the turn past goalkeeper William Woodford. North, who had only won eight Portsmouth trophies in 19 appearances, threw away some gilt-edged chances in the late stages to make it nine. The Loaring brothers shot wide and Naro Zimmerman with two greatÌý opportunities headed over. the 2nd being seconds from time. |
