Understanding each other better (Belgium)

I've followed my husband to Belgium where I've lived since 1998. I'm originally from Indonesia. It's very interesting and challenging to make Dutch my second language. Most people here in Belgium are friendly and helpful in my progress to learn Dutch. I found Europe a very good place to learn many European languages as they can be easily found and practised. Driving half an hour brings me to a French speaking area where I can practise my French. It's nice to speak many languages for travel and socialising with people from other countries so we can understand each other better.

It depends on where your are living. If you live in the Flemish regions then Dutch, if you live in the Walloon regions then French. If you are living in Bruxelles, then they speak both languages, but French is far more prominent than Dutch there. Basically it all depends where you are living and what language they speak there mainly. Good luck!

I've just moved to Belgium and only speak English. Should I be learning French or Dutch first?
