Maori

English is the main language spoken in New Zealand, and I am very pleased that we have a language which is used in so many countries around the world. But Maori is also an official language in Aotearoa (NZ). Maori people used to be forbidden to use this language in schools . Now however there has been a push by Maori to have it more widely used. Not much use around the world say some, but when I was recently in the UK and turned on the tele and heard Haley Westentra singing Pokarekareana, it gave me goose bumps and made me feel pleased that we do have another language in New Zealand, and it is a point of difference between us. Kia Ora.
