Barrel it in

Four students flew to France on a camping holiday. They travelled light - no dictionary as they thought that collectively they did not need one. The first problem was that they had no hammer to put in the tent pegs. In front of an distracting receptionist leaning over her desk we searched our combined memory banks for the word. Eventually we asked if we could borrow un tonneau to put in the pegs. Unfortunately, the word is marteau. Un tonneau is a wine barrel.
