Biking it to Florence
Whilst studying the Italian language at a University based in Rome, my roommate and I planned a train journey to Florence. So I, secure in my knowledge of the language, walked boldly up to the ticket office and asked for due biciclette per Firenze, per favore. My request was met with a rather odd look from the ticket salesman, which I then realized was because I had asked him for two bicycles to Florence! Blushing, I then correctly requested due biglietti, two tickets.

It's an easy mistake. I once asked for a 'republic' phone instead of a public one...
