Give me iron (Serbian)

As a teenager in Serbia on a holiday I wanted to iron my clothes. I looked up the word "iron" in my little dictionary and approached a chambermaid and said gvo"zdje. She looked at me as if I was crazy. Years later I found out that gvo"zdje is the metal "iron" so in effect I was asking her for building material! My only other word in Serbian is brz, quick, so I probably could get a job as production manager in a Serbian steel mill?

You iron your clothes with a pegla in Serbia :)

This is beautiful! Next time when you find yourself lost in translation, try to use gestures, as many native Serbians do so. Hope this would help.
