Small grandchildren

While in a mountainous region of Baja, Mexico, an accumulation of snowfall developed. I mentioned to some locals that where I live, very far north, we get much snow, sometimes a meter in depth. Instead of using the word for snow, nieve, I used the word for grandchildren, nietos. My sentence came out as: "Up north where I live, we have many grandchildren one meter tall". The listener responded with a perplexed look and asked "Nevada?". The conversation died at that point. A few hours later I realized my mistake and my wife and I had a good laugh.
