We are the church

When I lived in Spain my girlfriend went to do some sightseeing whilst I was at work. She explained her poor understanding to people saying 'Yo soy la iglesia' and wondered why people were walking away quickly. It turned instead of saying 'Soy inglesa', I am English, she was proudly stating 'Hello I am the church!'

A colleague on Spanish course in Spain had rung home to find out how his team had got on in the FA Cup final. On learning they had won, he asked me what "Champions" was in Spanish. I told him, only to realise later he been belowing "Mushrooms! Mushrooms!" down the phone.
