Who stole the till?

You can actually say this sentence to a Swedish speaking person: 'Who stole the till?' You'll be perfectly understood and get a polite answer. In fact you've just just said something that sounds very similar to a Swedish sentence asking someone how she or he is: Hur star det till? It's also a good way to memorize this phrase.

The pronounciation 'Who stole the till' is taken from a well known Swedish joke about the inhabitants of Skåne (Scania) the southmost county of Sweden, where the dialect is somewhat different from the official Swedish language. The correct pronunciation of the phrase Hur står det till is more like 'Huer staur det till' in English transliteration.
