Clip Title: Kiermaz – Polish Garden fete at Penley in the 60s

Clips: [ 1 ]
Description

This clip is taken from an 8mm film shot by Andy Bezera in his early teens. It shows a summertime event in the tradition of the Polish Kiermasz – the Polish equivalent of a garden fete. These were held on an annual basis, and organised by the League of Friends to raise funds for the hospital.

In the film you will see a visit from the Mayor of Wrexham at that time, and towards the beginning, some tombola shots with the hospital staff in national dress.

Most of the children form Penley appeared in the troupes dancing the Polonaise in the military uniforms, and in Krakowski traditional costume for the singing. The athletics display was from the children of the Bilateral School across the road, at Penley.
