I enjoyed working at thr store as well as going to night school to learn economics and a business course as well as a new language. This did not last long as war broke out and I had to learn first aid which was more useful tp help out at local hospitals. I then went into full time nursing in North Yorkshire. i worked 56 hours per week but somebody found that was aleagle and we changed to 48 hours. i was payed 5 pound per month. we had a indoor and outdoor uniform.we could go out till 10:30pm only on evenings off but if we were working we couldnt go out after working.i worked with more people than there is now as we had to do everything including cleaning as well as nursing.
