Helford boasts a variety of wildlife habitats from rocky shores and reefs to sandbars and mud flats.

Eighty species of fish and shellfish have been recorded in the estuary including Sea Bass, Cuttlefish' Lobsters and Crabs.

The Seal Sanctuary runs feeding demonstrations throughout the day. Seals, Sea Lions, and Otters can be seen at the sanctuary.

Helford Marine Conservation aims to encourage people to become involved with the marine environment and to help conserve it. It runs a range of activities as well as conservation projects. Membership is open to all.

Little Egrets can be seen throughout the Helford estuary, especially at Frenchmen's Creek, Prisk Cove and Nare Point. Also look for them in the trees, fields and mudflats around the estuary.

Access:

Disabled access: Wheelchair access to National Seal Sanctuary.

Getting there:

The Helford estuary is located at Helston in Cornwall. Follow the signs to RNAS Culdrose/Lizard on the A3083 and take a left turn at the roundabout along the B3293. Follow the signs to the river head for almost 1 km.

For the Seal Sanctuary follow the signs to Gweek village, turn right just before the Gweek Inn and then watch for signs to the Seal Sanctuary.

Opening times:

National Seal Sanctuary - open daily except Christmas Day from 10am. Closing times vary depending on season so check before arranging your trip.

Charges:

National Seal Sanctuary - Adults 拢9.95, Children 拢7.95.
