Manhole covers turned into temporary fountains in Mean Lane as the volume of water overwhelmed the drainage system.
Motorists drove through a lake of water on Helme Lane until one driver’s engine flooded leaving him stranded.
Roads turned to rivers along Acre Lane as the water poured off fields above Meltham flooding some homes further down in the town.
I drove to Elland Bridge - rebuilt after the 2015 Boxing Day floods.
It had been hit by a huge, green shipping container carried down the River Calder by the flooding.
A crowd looked on as police closed it off for 24 hours and structural engineers began to assess the damage.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was taking an emergency call every 30 seconds today as it dealt with dozens of incidents across the county, it has said.
It has been at more than 100 incidents since 08:00 this morning, taking almost 700 emergency calls in the process.
Incidents have included flooding in the Calder Valley, Kirklees, Bradford and Leeds, it said.
Some homes and businesses have been affected directly.
More than 20 fire engines have been at emergencies, WYFRS said.

Ferry passengers spent hours waiting to dock after windy and wet conditions from Storm Ciara.
The Pride of Hull was due to arrive at about 08:30 this morning - but it's taken an extra seven hours to dock because of the weather.
Passenger Lee Turnbull and wife and friends set sail from Rotterdam at 20:00 last night.
He said: “We had quite a bumpy crossing and in the middle of the night, at about 03:00-04:00 the boat stopped in anchor. The captain put a message out this morning and said due to high winds in Hull they couldn’t dock until about 15:30 this afternoon.
“We’ve only had a couple of updates this morning but the catering staff put free teas and coffees and lunch on and the cinemas on. It’s okay actually.
“You could say the boat is rocking a little bit. We had an entertaining night. We didn’t really sleep well at all."
The ferry docked at about 15:45.

Hebden Bridge was badly hit by flooding on Boxing Day 2015 and in 2012.

More rain is expected to fall this evening on places that have already been hit by flooding, the latest forecast shows.
Winds could drop, but they'll still be in the 50mph region.

As expected, the Humber Bridge has reopened but restrictions remain to vulnerable and high-sided vehicles.

Racing at Catterick Racecourse won't happen tomorrow due to heavy rain.

The A628 Woodhead Pass is set to reopen after it was previously closed due to strong winds reaching almost 80mph.
A change in the weather has meant it's now safe to reopen the route, Highways England said.

People have been seen walking through floodwater in Sowerby Bridge as heavy rain has flooded roads in the town.
The town was hit by flooding on Boxing Day 2015 - but the water levels aren't that high today.
Storm Ciara has brought heavy rain and high winds to Yorkshire.
A severe flood warning remains in place on the River Nidd at Pateley Bridge and Bewerley, North Yorkshire.
