The deputy manager of a bowling alley said he and his colleagues were "so happy to get back to work" after the government announced it can re-open.
Earlier Boris Johnson said bowling alleys can open from 1 August as can most remaining leisure settings, including skating rinks, casinos and all close contact services such as beauticians.
Andrew Long, deputy manager at Hollywood Bowl in Derby, said: 鈥淲e can鈥檛 say how happy we are to go back to work.鈥
Mr Long said they have a number of measures in place to protect people from coronavirus including only opening half the lanes, and sanitising the areas between every visit.
He said the bowling industry had been 鈥渟tuck in limbo鈥 and felt it had been forgotten.
A campaign called Bring Back Bowling was launched by companies to urge the prime minister to re-open the alleys after other hospitality and leisure companies were given the go-ahead.

The market place in Derby will be turned into an outdoor space where people can eat and drink.
The table service venue will have a capacity for 330 people with a bar, bookable chalets and a performance area.
It is part of a plan to help local businesses who are operating with a reduced capacity because of Covid-19, the city council has said.
Councillor Robin Wood said: 鈥淭he hospitality industry wants to re-open but can鈥檛 really survive because there is not enough room inside.
"You need to space people out and there we are with a big open market place that doesn鈥檛 do much. People have been saying why don鈥檛 you make it more vibrant and interesting and here鈥檚 the answer."
It starts on Saturday 25 July and will be open from 11:00 to 14:00 Sunday to Wednesday and 11:00 to 14:00 and 18:00 to 21:00 Thursday to Saturday.
