A Jersey couple are to ride in a royal carriage as part of a run-through of the royal wedding in London.

Leonnie McCrann and Christian Spurr won a competition that will see them being driven from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace.

It is thought they may travel in the Glass Coach that took Diana to her wedding to Prince Charles.

Miss McCrann said: "We are nervous. I am more worried about what I am going to wear than anything else."

The prize was originally a day behind the scenes of the Household Cavalry, won by Jersey man Bill Findlay.

Mr Findlay paid £1,000 in a charity auction for Holidays for Heroes Jersey to spend the day with the Household Cavalry.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment is taking part in the wedding.

Troop inspection

And he heard last week the prize had changed to going in a carriage as part of a royal wedding rehearsal.

Mr Findlay asked the Jersey Evening Post to help him find a local couple to join him on the trip.

Miss McCrann and Mr Spurr are getting married next year.

Mr Spurr said William and Kate's wedding was "great" for getting a new generation interested in the Royal Family.

Their day in London will start with a military inspection.

Mr Spurr said: "I think this is a chance for the military to prove they are ready to do it - it is the Household Cavalry.

"We will be doing an inspection of the troops in the way the Queen would.

"Then they will be taking us in the royal carriage from Westminster Abbey down to Buckingham Palace to test everything out."
