In
1930, while he was still at Oxford, he met and married his
first wife, Giovanna Ezra, 1930. They divorced in 1936,
leaving MacNeice as the single parent of their only child,
a boy named Dan. MacNeice later married Hedli Anderson,
a singer in 1942. They had a child, Corinna, but separated
in 1960. MacNeice had many love affairs throughout his life,
but he never seemed to have much luck with women. WH Auden
once described MacNeice as a lover of woman and a lover
of Donegal.
After Oxford. MacNeice moved first to Birmingham to lecture
in Classics. He finally moved to London, where he eventually
joined the 大象传媒 as an Arts Producer, where his colleagues
included Dylan Thomas. It was a hardworking, hard drinking
environment. During this time, he produced many radio plays.
The Dark Tower is considered the best of these. But during
this period, his poetry suffered as a result of his work
for the 大象传媒.
