大象传媒 ONE

Spring & Summer highlights 2004

Book an armchair near you for an eventful spring summer season with 大象传媒 ONE

大象传媒 ONE will be at the heart of a summer of live events as sporting passion, athletic achievement and national pride combine in a 拢272 million season.

Lorraine Heggessey, Controller, 大象传媒 ONE, said: "Bringing the nation together to celebrate and commemorate big events is key to the channel's role in society.

"It's important that people know they can switch to 大象传媒 ONE when we cover those moments of great joy or deep reflection: from D-Day veterans reunited on the Normandy beaches, or the tension from the stadium as the athletes warm up for a gold medal win or to those 'hands over the eyes' moments as David Beckham steps up to take that crucial penalty."

This summer the Olympic Games return to their country of birth and the 大象传媒 has exclusive coverage of the event featuring 10,000 athletes competing in 37 disciplines.

Over 2,500 years after the first Games, the 大象传媒 brings Athens 2004 Olympic Games into the digital age, delivering more choice for sport enthusiasts.

As a world first, the 大象传媒 delivers the Olympic Games not only on television and interactive TV but also live over broadband straight to your PC.

大象传媒 sport experts including Michael Johnson and Colin Jackson join Sue Barker in Athens to guide viewers though this global celebration of sporting drama.

To complement the Olympic Games, 大象传媒 ONE sails back in time to revisit the Gods and Goddesses of ancient Greece.

Gold medal winner and Songs of Praise presenter Jonathan Edwards takes this opportunity to explore the meaning of these myths, what they reveal about ancient Greek religion and their resonances in contemporary life.

The Animal Games fuses science and entertainment to discover who would be the champions if the natural world held their own Olympics.

大象传媒 ONE is sure to be a showcase for some of the world's most exciting football this season as Euro 2004 begins in June.

The 大象传媒 Match of the Day team will be making the trip to Portugal for live coverage of the Championships, including England's final group game against Croatia and a potential quarter-final clash with Portugal or Spain.

Alistair McGowan and Ronni Ancona will be celebrating the national game with their own brand of humour in a Big Impression Euro 2004 Special.

August heralds the start of the new football season and the most popular theme tune in the business will be back on Saturday nights as Premiership highlights return home to Match of the Day.

Each week Gary Lineker and Alan Hansen will be joined by a range of top guests to review all the action from the Premier League.

On 6 June 1944, the largest flotilla of troops in history set sail for Normandy. The assault on the Normandy beaches was so huge, so daring and so crucial, that even to this day D-Day is synonymous with a 'make or break' situation.

As Britain prepares to celebrate the 60th anniversary of D-Day, 6 June 2004 offers what is perhaps a final chance to share and preserve the memories of all those who lived through those momentous events of 1944.

大象传媒 ONE leads a unique series of initiatives across the 大象传媒 with live coverage of the D-Day Memorial Event and the veterans' march past on the D-Day anniversary itself, complemented by a new drama to mark the occasion.

The drama, D-Day, not only unravels the jigsaw of events surrounding the planning and the execution of the invasion of Normandy, but also tells the story of the ordinary men and women who played an extraordinary part in creating history.

Destination D-Day: Raw Recruits takes 19 young men and puts them through the preparations and training exercises that their grandfathers might have experienced 60 years ago.

D-Day veterans accompany them on their journey, offering advice and support and providing a unique insight into how the men of Britain got ready for their part in war.
