The Chauhan family (Rita - Hindu/Gujarati, Pradeep - Hindu/Gujarati from East Africa) - a lively family where everyone is always on the go and it's impossible to get everyone in the same place at the same time.

Rita 聳 the mother 聳 confident and outgoing. She聮s quite a modern mum, although her own kids might not say so (Bharti Patel)
Pradeep 聳 the father 聳 quieter and more reserved, which frustrates his wife. He's the Head Chef at the restaurant (Ashvin-Kumar Joshi)
Jasmine 聳 about to take her 聭A聮 Levels and wants to go to University (Hema Mangoo)
Arun 聳 he's at school but not very studious. He's really into music and wants to get in with the cool lads (Dharmesh Patel)
Roopa 聳 a typical young teenager, she wants to be famous and always having crushes (Rakhee Thakrar)
Krishan 聳 the baby of the family but he's very bright and knows everybody's business (Rahual Das)
Kamla 聳 the grandmother 聳 enjoys living with her grandchildren but doesn't like to feel like a burden on Rita (Surendra Kochar)

The Jilani family (Mushtaq 聳 Muslim, born in Lahore, Pakistan, children born in UK)

Mushtaq 聳 the father 聳 a local businessman who owns fabric and grocery stores and is now moving into property development. Thinks he's better than the rest of the community (Paul Battacharjee)
Rozena 聳 daughter 聳 a qualified lawyer working in an exclusive practice in Warwick. She can be quite cold and ruthless at times (Pooja Ghai)
Imran 聳 son 聳 he runs the community centre. Passionate about helping the kids in the area, and doesn't always see eye-to-eye with his Dad over this (Hari Sajjan)

Kuljit Singh (Sikh) and Sway Holloway (Black Londoner) 聳 two friends who have had to leave London fast after getting on the wrong side of the local tough guy. They are new to the area (Kuljit 聳 Sartaj Garewal, Sway 聳 Clive Wedderburn)

Jodie Howard (Mixed Race) 聳 also new to the area, she聮s in the process of opening up a caf茅 by the canal in the regeneration zone (Vineeta Rishi)

Mani Ray (Hindu/Bengali) 聳 owns the restaurant where Pradeep works. He was once a famous musician (Renu Setna)

Jaggy Singh (Sikh) - a footballer trying to make it big, but has just arrived on loan to a local team in a lower division. He likes to live the lifestyle (Jay Kiyani)
Simran Kaur (Sikh) 聳 Jaggy's partner. Very glamorous and enjoys the glitzy lifestyle too. She's used to following Jaggy around but now wants to do something in her own right (Balvinder Sopal)

Mary Brady (Irish) 聳 the pub landlady and a confessor for all sorts of characters on the street - she tells it like it is (Carole Nimmons)
Sean Brady (Mixed Race) 聳 Mary's grandson and one of the lads, along with Jammy (Kee Ramsourren)
Brian Kavanagh (Irish) 聳 Mary's brother. A builder who's going into partnership with Mushtaq over the redevelopment, but he doesn't always do everything above board (Gerard McDermott)

The Akhtar family 聳 parents Pervaiz and Khatija (Muslim, born in Mirpur, Pakistan) and children Nadia and Jammy (born in UK)
Jammy 聳 he's 'one of the lads' and always getting into trouble (Jetinder Summan)
Nadia - works at the salon and is really ambitious. She likes to act as if she's done it all but really quite shy (Sohm Kapila)
They both feel their responsibilities at home, as their father is unable to work and relies a lot on them to support the family.
