Conflicts - Zimbabwe

Thursday 30 June at 11.00pm

Ten years ago, Zimbabwe was one of Africa's biggest success stories and a major food exporter.

Now, the economy's in tatters and the country's been scarred by controversial seizures of white farms and political intimidation.

The youth militia has been accused of raping and beating up people at will, and nine farmers have been murdered in attempts to force them off land.

Tony Blair lays the blame on the 81-year-old President Robert Mugabe for Zimbabwe's ills; Mugabe's just returned for his sixth term in office and he says it is all Britain's fault.

Conflicts looks at why things have gone wrong in the home of the famous Victoria Falls.

Conflicts - Sudan

Thursday 7 July at 11.00pm

In 2003, the world's newest civil war erupted in the Darfur region of Sudan.

It's estimated that more than 180,000 people have died and two million refugees have fled their homes. The government is accused of genocide and Darfur has quickly became the world's worst man-made humanitarian crisis.

The British public has dug deep in its pockets to fund aid operations, but the United Nations has been slow to send in peacekeepers.

In another fast-moving beginner's guide to a global danger zone, Conflicts explains how Darfur was a disaster waiting to happen in one of Africa's most divided countries.
