The Queen At 80

Week 15 & Week 16 - programme one is on Sunday 9 April, 9.00pm, 大象传媒 ONE

Her Majesty The Queen has been a presence in our lives for more than 50 years as sovereign of the United Kingdom and as Head of the Commonwealth.

She is undoubtedly one of the most famous women in the world, but what is The Queen's role in the modern state and in her 80th year?

The Queen at 80 follows The Queen's working life in a cross-section of engagements including the royal tour of Canada and the End of the War celebrations for 2,000 veterans at Buckingham Palace.

It also features exclusive and intimate footage including access to rarely seen archive from Her Majesty's private collection.

The programme examines the historic events which have shaped the monarchy: the abdication, the controversies affecting her family in the Nineties, the death of Diana, and the recent wedding of the heir to the throne.

Through the eyes of Brian May, Sir Cliff Richard, Barbara Windsor and Sharon and Ozzie Osbourne it also revisits the celebration which brought 2.5 million people into The Mall and became one of the most watched pop concerts in history with more than 200 million viewers: the Golden Jubilee.

Great British Menu

Great British Menu is a new Daytime series showcasing a UK nationwide search for the best of British cuisine.

A perfect four course menu will be created through a tense competition between some the nation's finest chefs.

The menu will be served to the Queen and guests at a lunch in honour of Her Majesty's 80th birthday.

Fourteen chefs representing seven different nations and regions are scouring the country for the best local ingredients.

Taking their inspiration from the local area and the traditions of British food each chef is then creating a unique four-course menu.

These recipes will reflect and interpret the range and diversity of British food in 2006.

The series pits two chefs against each other, region by region, nation by nation. Each menu will consist of a starter, fish course, main course and dessert.

A panel of experts on British food - Prue Leith, Matthew Fort and Oliver Peyton - will decide which menu from each region or nation will go through to the public vote in the eighth and final week.

The series will be presented by former 大象传媒 Royal Correspondent and broadcaster Jennie Bond.

The programme starts on 10 April and airs from Monday to Friday.

Beating Retreat

Thursday 15th June 2006, 7.00-8.00pm

To celebrate HRH The Duke of Edinburgh's 85th Birthday, 240 musicians from The Massed Bands of Her Majesty's Royal Marines will fill Horse Guards Parade in central London to perform their world renowned Beating Retreat; one of the oldest military battle traditions with references to it dating back to the 16th century.

The Duke, who is Captain General of the Royal Marines, the emergency strike force of the Royal Navy, takes a keen interest in the corps and will take the salute on this occasion with HM The Queen watching the spectacular ceremony.

It offers a rare opportunity to see an iconic piece of military tradition of the highest quality.

Notes to Editors

Her Majesty The Queen will be visiting the 大象传媒's Broadcasting House in London on Thursday 20 April to mark the refurbishment of the building.
