Lift – Nina Wadia plays Sunita
Sunita is in her 30s. She has been stuck in lifts twice before and happily regales everybody with her experiences, seeing herself as the expert. She and Paul Sykes clash almost incessantly as Mark Watson explains: "Their personalities are somehow similar but maddeningly at odds."

Nina elaborates: "Sunita is very anal – a real know-it-all. I enjoyed playing her as she's highly irritating and annoying, and I think I got on the nerves of all the other actors, which was great!

"I've never been on a job before that I enjoyed so much yet was so desperate to get home from! After a few days stuck in the lift set we began to suffer from real cabin fever and got slightly hysterical. The charades scene topped it off.

"Douglas was acting his heart out and we all had to pretend we didn't know what he was doing. We worked really well as a team, each with our very distinct roles. And I love the fact that Sunita and Paul Sykes actually have a moment between them – I wasn't expecting that, but it was fun to see it develop."

She continues: "Lift is a real look at human nature and the stages people go through - and the effects of insomnia – and the way in which you can find yourself telling complete strangers all sorts of personal things."

She adds: "Going back to the dressing rooms after filming each day I had to get into a lift. On the very first day there was a little judder and I thought: 'Now this would be really surreal if after filming I actually got stuck in a lift!'
Ìý
"It's never happened to me, not even when I lived in Hong Kong, which is renowned for that sort of thing. But I would certainly have a good topic of conversation now if ever I do get stuck – I can talk about filming Lift!"
