Gethin Jones dances out of Strictly Come Dancing
|
Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones became the 11th person to be voted
off ´óÏó´«Ã½ One's Strictly Come Dancing in tonight's semi-finals after failing to impress the judges in the dance off.
Ìý
All the couples danced two different numbers again tonight including the
Argentine Tango but, as they say, three's a crowd and one of those
couples had to leave.
Ìý
But it was Gethin and actor Matt D'Angelo who found themselves in the
bottom two competing in the dance off.
Ìý
Gethin performed the Argentine
Tango and Matt performed the Waltz – their highest scoring dances with
the judges of the night.
Ìý
Of Gethin's first performances, the judges said:
Ìý
Dance 1: Paso Doble
Ìý
Arlene Phillips: "That Paso was a real mix. Sometimes it was a bit like a
Spanish omelette – not very pleasant – and other times like fine Rioja.
It went in between. It was a real mix." Score:
8.
Ìý
Craig Revel Horwood: "It didn't thrill me and I don't know why. It lacked a connection, there was something missing." Score:
8.
Ìý
Len Goodman: "The Paso is the hardest dance for the male celebs and I thought you
came out and dominated that floor." Score:
10.
Ìý
Bruno Tonioli: "What I really, really think is you came out, fire, brimstone, you
went for it, yes. But Spanish line – forget it." Score:
8.
Ìý
Total: 34/40.
Ìý
Dance 2: Argentine Tango
Ìý
Arlene: "The Argentine Tango is known as the people's dance and I think
you are going to make people get up and want to study that dance."
Score: 9.
Ìý
Craig: "It really surprised me because it was slow but you held the mood." Score:
9.
Ìý
Len: "I thought you came out, you held everyone's attention ... you gave it
great atmosphere, well done." Score:
9.
Ìý
Bruno: "Moody, dangerous, the prince of darkness you were tonight. You
were really going for it. I like the mood of it, it had that sense of
danger. You worked well with Camilla. You did a great job on it." Score:
9.
Ìý
Total: 36/40.
Ìý
They scored a total of 70/80.
Ìý
The judges' leader board was:
Alesha and Matt 76
Matt and Flavia 75
Gethin and Camilla 70
Ìý
But following the dance off, the judges favoured Matt. They said:
Ìý
Craig: "I do have to say the professionals have done an extraordinary
job to bring two guys to this standard. It's extraordinary. I'm saving
Matt and Flavia."
Ìý
Arlene: "I have never been in this dramatic, difficult position before.
Based on the last dance... the night belongs to Gethin and Camilla."
Ìý
Bruno: "I want to say credit to both guys. Gentlemen you were a real
class act. But based on what I saw tonight I'm saving Matt and Flavia."
Ìý
Len: "I admire both so much... it's difficult to take away thoughts of the
past but based on those two dances I'm saving Matt and Flavia."
Ìý
Afterwards Gethin said: "I've had an incredible adventure and now I have some great
dance moves thanks to Camilla... My friends never expected me to get past
week two."
Ìý
Alesha Dixon and Matt D'Angelo are now one step closer to being crowned
Strictly Come Dancing champions as they go through to next week's final.
Ìý
There they will perform their highest scoring ballroom and Latin dances
of the series, a joint Viennese waltz, the judges' choice (where they
perform a dance to the same piece of music chosen by the four judges) and a show dance. Ìý
The competition concludes next week on ´óÏó´«Ã½ One at 5.50pm and 9.25pm.
